As it is advertised: I met a girl on a match dating site. We went out for a few times and we decided to have a real relationship. Then two years later, we got married and she is just the right one for me. All the online dating and hookup apps and sites want you to believe this is the norm of online dating. But the more people I talk to, the more I realize that every experience is different.
However, I do understand that many people have misunderstandings and fears for online dating which makes them stop. Although I cannot guarantee all people are going to replicate my successful experience in online dating, I do think it’s worth a shot. Here are some questions I got from people who are curious about online dating but have yet to try it.
Are there really people doing it? Speaking of internet, you can hardly find anyone who won’t surf the net nowadays. The problem is are these people the one you want to date. You will be amazed. Online dating used to be something people are somewhat ashamed of, although it still is for a small group of people. It is undeniable that the acceptability of online dating is growing day by day. If you ask people around you, you can find out that lots of people are doing it, not just the internet addicts.
What if someone I knew sees my profile? Why should you be awkward about it? Haven’t you seen the answer for the first question? Remember, there are more people are doing it than you think, a lot more. If your friend is going to judge you just because you want to find love or a hookup, then it is them who think it wrong. If you said something stupid in your profile and you don’t want your friends to see it, then you certainly don’t want your potential dates to see.
More importantly, in most dating sites, your profile is not really open to all. The only people who can see it are the ones that also registered on this site. So if someone you knew see your profile, they must be on that site too. There is no need to judge if it is the case.
Is it really safe? Of course, it is not always safe to meetup with strangers. But think about this: Meeting someone online, especially after you had the chance to talk to them, is just as safe as meeting someone in bars or night clubs. Actually, it can be safer unless you have a record system carried with you just like the record on the dating and hookup apps like hot or not.
